I have been very remiss in keeping up with my blog. A number of factors have entered the equation, but all of them were variables. For those of you who have had math, especially Calculus or above, you know that an equation with no resolvable real integers also has no real solution. Since I was not successful at finding real values to hold to, I have decided to put it behind me and with faith that no good or evil deed goes unpunished, and go forward.
I finished stripping the third bedroom this past week and have started working on making a unique office for my quiet times and study times. I have decided on a stone tile to put on the floor. It is called Katanga Copper African Slate Ceramic.
You can see it here: http://www.lowes.com. Under key word type in Katanga Copper. I wanted to create a design of my own, but have opted instead to inlay a Celtic cross made of different woods and sealed so that it won’t scuff or wear. Georgiann said, “Oh great. Try selling a three bedroom home with a Celtic cross in the middle of the floor.” Actually, she said Byzantine, because I was mistakenly calling it a Byzantine cross. I knew in my mind what I want it to look like, just didn’t know what it was called specifically. Another flaw in my Christian education that I hope to rectify.
I have also decided on wall covering. The first 34 inches of wall, from the bottom up, will be covered by ¼ inch thick boards of variable width. All the way from about an inch to 9 ½ inches. The reason for the upper width limit is the depth my table saw can cut. Yes, I am back to using my table saw. And trust me, not only am I well aware of where my fingers are; I really miss those that left us so suddenly.
The boards, base and chair rail will all be painted a sand color, and I am hoping to scatter handfuls of sand into the paint before it completely dries. Just throw it on the wall. In a sweeping motion. Not all over. Just in streaks. Give it a dust bowl effect. Something from my roots. I grew up with sand in my teeth. The upper part of the walls will be papered with a deep texture paper which in turn will be painted to look like leather. The crown will be painted the same color as the walls. Hopefully it will blend in subtly. I was going to put in a copper colored tin ceiling, but not now. Maybe not at all. I will have recessed can lighting as well as a fan with a chandelier.
It is going to be a lengthy process, but if it turns out, it will be uniquely mine. Unique enough to prevent its sale, but that won’t be my worry.
