Pictures and mumblings

Things here have been going pretty much normal without anything exciting. I often remember the Chinese curse that goes, in translation, "May you live in interesting times." You can think that through.

Work is going ok for me. I am beginning to get a handle on more of the mgt stuff. I've had some challenges with some of my associates. One is new to Lowe's and has struggled shaking off former job mentality. But they are coming along. The other is young and doesn't have the work ethic us old geezers have. Nor do they have a Lowe's work ethic. So we are encouraging both to study Lowe's retail methods and come on line, so to speak. Lowe's is my first venture into retail since high school. I did pull brief stints in a shoe store, a fast food restaurant and a grocery store. But in 4 years of Uncle Sam indoctrination and then all of my adult life in the electronic service industry I really lost all trace of understanding of retail. And besides, it probably has changed significantly in those 38 years.

My blood sugar readings each day seem to jump all over the graph (yes, I graph them) and Jill just now suggested it might be in part to my shift work. Good, I have something to blame it on. My wife was suggesting my late night high sugar snacks could be a reason. Well, whatever. Some people always want to look at practical things. Inhibits those of who look at the esoteric in things. Being too grounded in reality causes the artistic brain cells to quit firing.

I've been working on a project in wood for our vision pastor at church and while it is coming along slowly, it is coming along nicely. I mixed oak with pine and have begun to question the use of pine. But it is what it is and with some stain and varnish it think it will be suitable for public viewing. I hope he doesn't believe he will have to put it away when he has visitors.

50 degrees and sunny here today with a little wind. Looks like mostly sunny to partly skies for the next 10 or 12 days with day time temperatures ranging between the current 50 and 68. I have been venturing out on the bike some lately. I am planing a trip to the Williamsburg area in December. It can be cold there, but hoping for mile temperatures and NO perception. I want to bike the Colonial Parkway and other areas.

I'll post pictures of my project when I'm done. After I give it to Pastor Kerry, of course. I doubt he even knows about this blog, but someone close to him might.

Cheers. Hope you did all you wanted to do in October. It is closing fast. I have one more report for work to finish. Argh.
